this made me really happy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8308313.stm

but also worried me. more power to the people who are doing this despite the threat of them fuckin' taliban idiots. inshallah, their efforts won't be in vain... it's so easy to get disheartened especially in a place like pakistan where people WILL take advantage of that.

My man. It has been way too long. I'm on a trip right now biking from Canada to Mexico to meet with the most innovative people and organizations we can find (haha, no that was not a plug, just get to excited) but I will be back in Boulder September 5th. Would love to connect then and to catch up.. it has, in short, been far too long my man

I had the opposite experience with my mom, she had always said "we (meaning women in the 1970s) changed the world." I would say "you can't change the world by yourself" meaning my generation would have to help out too. We're both coming around to each other's point of view. I think something new emerges from that common experience.

Nice round-up. I read On Faith, and I agree, it's a huge resource for finding interesting bits of religious news. Keep up the good work!

I think that an education campaign would be more effective than censorship, which usually leads to public opposition. Going off on a tangent, independent and public media is a powerful tool for public education. I'm currently interning at the public access television station in Denver, where 99% of the stations content is produced by the public. It is a powerful information outlet.

HI abbas...thanx for reading my site.......sorry for replying so l8
the problem of india cannot be resolved by a mere process or a referendum but instead, and that is why it's hard, it has to involve removal of the state of mind that wishes to ignore the state that his/her country is in

Thanx

Abbas, you've brought up that terrifying question. I suppose that's an incentive to make the best choices so that we regret nothing later. Of course, it's a sure thing that we'll see what we could have done better with the benefit of hindsight, but we have to make the best with what we've got. I know I have a few regrets about what I neglected to do in Mongolia. It was a weird experience on the subway at DIA, realizing that the much anticipated study abroad experience, the only one I'm likely to ever have, was officially over.

I take this whole thing as a message to use foresight. Figure out now what we want to accomplish, then figure out how, then set yourself up for that while (this is the hard part) still enjoying ourselves in the moment.

Now I'll stop the motivational speaker gimick and sign off. See you soon.

Hey Abbas, don't let the language get you down. All my life I've thought of learning languages as my academic strongsuit, but I've been in Mongolia with supposedly intensive language courses and I still feel inept. I can't even mimic the accent or form simple sentences without 5-10 second gaps.

Today it officially became cold. I get an apartment next week to begin my independent study on the ger districts. Ironically, I'm in the rich part of town, mostly because that's where the NGO's and libraries are all located.

Haven't found Starbucks here. The Americanized establishments are all independently owned. Cheif among them is the Great Khaan Irish Pub, which I patronize for its high speed internet access. Check out my Mongolian jacket, courtesy of wireless!
